Hamari Shala

This program was the result of a need-based assessment undertaken in 2019 with Ashraya parents, school teachers, children, drop-out students, to understand Ashraya’s progress and review the needs of the community and build a long term strategy. The key learning was that our community children lacked access to holistic development through local government schools and affordable private schools. The focus in these schools was purely academic which lacked contextual understanding of our community. After a lot of research and deliberation, Ashraya adopted the Open Basic Education model of the National Institute of Open Schooling, India which allowed us to have autonomy in the curriculum that we could create focussing on the practical and cultural context of the community.
